Bessarabia was annexed by Czarist Empire in 1812. On December 2, 1914, it proclaimed its independence as the Moldavian Democratic Republic. In March 27, 1918 it unites with the mother country, Romania. Following the Ribbentrop - Molotov, Bessarabia is occupied by the USSR. On June 28, 1940, due to Soviet ultimatum, Romania gives Bessarabia to the Soviet Union.
